Event Details
The location of this year's scholarship fundraising dinner was the beautiful Max M. Fisher Music Center on April 28, 2007 to celebrate The Legacy Associates Foundation's (L.A.F.) 9th Annual Scholarship Dinner titled "Seeds of Today, Trees of Tomorrow". The dinner, created to increase awareness in the community about LAF's services and programs, proudly welcomed former U.S. Congressman Mr. Harold Ford, Jr. (www.haroldfordjr.com) as our guest speaker. Almost 350 guests filled the Music Box to hear the new vice chairman and senior advisor of public policy for Merrill Lynch deliver a electric and dynamic speech. Mr. Gerald Smith of Comcast Cable did a masterful job as the Master of Ceremonies.

With the help of dedicated sponsors including Charter One Bank, Merrill Lynch, Comcast Cable, Comerica Bank, State Farm Insurance, Skillman Foundation, Greektown Casino, New Detroit Coalition, Mary & Wilburn Daniels Scholarship Fund, DTE Energy, The Michigan Citizen, Radio One, HOUR Detroit Magazine and CW50, the dinner raised more than $60,000. These support dollars will be used to support the organization's year-round initiatives and annual scholarships to be awarded this summer to deserving high school seniors attending a 4-year accredited institutions of higher learning.

"We are grateful to our sponsors, the media, friends, family and community for helping to make this event a huge success," said Caleb Rutledge, newly elected President of Legacy Associates Foundation. "The LAF Annual Scholarship Dinner is proof of the positive people, the spirit in the City of Detroit and our community's commitment to our youth."

L.A.F. has completed accepting applications from Detroit area students to receive scholarships that extend far beyond the monetary value. Program Objective

The L.A.F. Annual Scholarship Dinner was created with the intent to allow constituents, friend and family of Legacy Associates Foundation to come together in support of our year-round efforts focused on the development of youth. Legacy members interact with and educate guests on the activities, programs, services, achievements and goals of the organization. This opportunity also allows us to provide special thanks and appreciation for the support that empowers the work of our membership, advisory board members and our community partners.

Program Goal
The goal of the Annual Scholarship Dinner is to raise the level of awareness to the programs and services our organization provides within the community for the benefit of youth. Additionally, we seek to raise the maximum amount of support dollars that will allow us to provide scholarships to high school seniors attending a 4-year, accredited institution of higher learning. Scholarships are awarded to deserving students during the summer months of each year.

Event Audience
Community members, family, friends, students, civic and community organizations, past scholarship recipients, representatives of mentor groups, business leaders, and more. Essentially, the event is open to all who desire to support the overall mission and goals of our organization.
